Personally, I can't stand her, but I know a lot of unwomanizers are muffins too, so maybe they can enlighten me as to what exactly draws them in to EA and what exactly there is to get out of the music. I have an open mind.

to me the appeal is violin with synth/drum machine. i always thought that sound would work really well and found her music to be pretty close to what i imagined. plus she uses the harpsichord fairly often, another sound i dig. plus i have a soft-spot for the redheads.

I enjoyed her earlier work. My collection ends at Enchanted, which is my favourite EA album. I'm not sure what drew me to her initially; I think it was the violin that first caught my attention, followed by her voice and lyrics. The more processed her work becomes the less I like it, which may partially explain why the newer stuff didn't click. When her style took a turn to the industrial I stopped listening because it didn't work for me.

I know my former favorite band The Cruxshadows were trying to get her to replace Rachel McDonnell when she left, but that never happened, and they ended up getting 2 replacement violinists; a classically trained guy and a more modern and experimental girl.

I am a sucker for killer live shows. CXS, BM and TLD have all got great live shows. There was one time The Last Dance was playing here at a tiny club called The Mason Jar, and they had been playing for over 90 minutes, went to encore, then it was 2am, they went to 2nd encore, and finally the bar owner turned the lights on and told them that was their last song, they were over. Jeff finishes the song, says "FUCK YOU. WE'RE GONNA PLAY ANOTHER ONE!" and they launch into this impromptu but beautiful rendition of Alegria until they quite literally had the plugs pulled.

See now, if I had the plugs pulled I could still play a cacella re. Emilie Autumn, I've always considered her the commercially successful version of me (in a way, obviously our vocal styles are extremely different). I didn't discover her until I was already doing what I do, but the fact that she's so well known kinda shamed me into realizing that, no, classical string player doing edgy yet pretty electronic-ish music is *not* above people's heads, I just hadn't found my right audience yet. I like some of her songs a whole lot but don't yet own a ton of her discography. I'm about to buy more, actually, and will probably have settled on which of her songs to cover when I get back from tour.
