Until Unwoman, it was a toss-up whether my favorite musical artist was Nobuo Uematsu, or The Cruxshadows. My soon-to-be-ex-wife and I kind of bonded around them in the budding stages of our relationship, and she likes them so much she got a giant CXS tri-bar cross tattoo in the middle of her back and tried out for the violinist spot a couple of years ago and was one of the final contenders. I even wear a CXS silver cross necklace. I've bought every piece of merch from them I could and given them more than just my money, my time and my heart. Their songs had done the same thing that Unwoman's do for me, lift me up out of dark places with dancy beats, messages of hope, and lots of intellectualism. I've met them many many times, seen almost every concert they have here and have traveled to Dragoncon to see them and shill for them outside of the hotels, handing out flyers. Rogue is one of a very limited number of artists to take his craft so bloody seriously, to live and breathe and put his soul into his work, and toil over perfection to the point of collapse. Unwoman is another, and it's that fevered zeal that draws us in as fans. The Cruxshadows have songs about mythology, poetry, superstitions and folklore, and covers, and here are a few of my favorites.
This is one of my favorites of theirs, though all the songs are good. There's an acoustic remix of it out there somewhere that brings tears to my eyes every time.
This song is about children vampires, i think.
This is my ring tone for when my wife calls. There is a depth to this song that most people don't get. Marilyn the name itself means bitterness, but there really was a woman in Rogue's life that he loved and thought loved him. She left him, saying mean, nasty and hurtful things, moving on to someone else, and left him tattered and torn and broken-hearted. They play this song at the end of EVERY set, and drag the fans up onto the stage for most of them, to dance and have fun.
Sorry, this is an older version of the song, they have a newer, much cleaner sounding version that I think I will make into a squeaky wheel request. This song is about vampires, obviously.
